In a cyberpunk point-and-click adventure, take control of three characters, a former combat hacker, a corporate CEO, and a malfunctioning android. The idea is to solve the mystery of why they are possessed by a mysterious entity.
Set in 2155, Bornholm is an island metropolis that rivals major world powers. Get ready to take control of three different characters living on the island: Eevi, a corporate combat hacker working as a bartender down on her luck; Mariposa, the CEO of Bornholm's biggest corporation; and a malfunctioning android who calls himself Grandmaster Flashdrive. Unfortunately, what they all have in common is possession by an unknown entity.
Influenced by greats like Monkey Island and Beneath a Steel Sky, Born Punk aims to please both newcomers and veterans of the genre. The mechanics of the game are simple. You can interact with objects, as well as store them in your inventory. There are many different ways of approaching puzzles and dialogue. This results in varying levels of difficulty based on how you approach the game. Not all items are useful, but each character has an opinion about each item anyway.
If you're a lover of in-game lore, then you're in luck. There is a lot of background information to read and discover. It becomes available in your PDA as you play and experience the world. Sometimes, in-game lore can even serve as an optional game mechanic.
The game is 2D pixel art, with detailed backgrounds and a lot of animation and movement everywhere, which brings the game to life. The characters are diverse and all characters have full voiceovers, even the cat! The main theme and other tracks are composed by Jeff Kurtenacker, composer of Wildstar and choral arranger of World of Warcraft. Synthwave musicians also join Jeff to create a genuine and emotional cyberpunk/sci-fi soundtrack with a Nordic twist.
Born Punk is a point-and-click that does not take itself too seriously. After all, what is a point-and-click without some humour?
Born Punk was released on June 18, 2022, and is currently on sale for R104 from Steam.
