30 of the biggest gaming companies have joined forces in combating online harrasment and toxic players. Companies such as Xbox, Blizzard, Twitch and Riot are part of an initiative called the Fair Play Alliance.
The Fair Play Alliance has one simple mission; to foster fair play in online games and raising awareness of the bad behavior we've all had to deal with in multiplayer games. According to their official website, their mission statement is:
The Fair Play Alliance is a coalition of gaming professionals and companies committed to developing quality games. We provide an open forum for the games industry to collaborate on research and best practices that encourage fair play and healthy communities in online gaming. We envision a world where games are free of harassment, discrimination, and abuse, and where players can express themselves through play.
This is definitely a good initiative. So many games suffer from extremely bad online communities, with people that abuse and harras with no real consequece of their actions. Hopefully these gaming companies will ban together in coming up with better ways of dealing with these individuals.
