Henry Cavill cast as Geralt in Netflix Adaptation

In early August Henry Cavill told IGN that he would be interested in playing the role of Geralt in the upcoming Netflix show based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski (which also inspired the legendary game series). He will get to do just as he has been officially cast in the role.

Showrunner Lauren Hissrich had the following to say on Twitter

In the interview with IGN Cavill mentioned that he recently replayed The Witcher 3 and that he is also a fan of the books. A lot of people will be very sceptical with this casting decision but I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt. There are certainly other actors that I would prefer in the role, but Cavill seems to be passionate about the source material and that can count for a lot.

According to Deadline Sapkowski himself will serve as creative consultant for the series while Alik Sakharov (House of Cards, Game of Thrones) will direct four episodes, including the pilot. Alex Garcia Lopez (Luke Cage, Fear the Walking Dead) and Charlotte Brändström (Outlander, Counterpart) will each direct two episodes of the series.
