Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit is getting remastered

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, arguably the best Need for Speed since the original Hot Pursuit was released in 1998, is getting a 10th anniversary remastered edition according to a Venture Beat report.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit was Criterion’s first foray into the series after Blackbox started running the franchise into the ground. It was a mashup of classic Need for Speed gameplay—meaning no ridiculous storylines—and some Burnout-style gameplay mechanics.

And it worked.

It remains one of the highest rated Need for Speed titles for the previous decade (89% on PS3, 88% on Xbox 360) and considering that it was released on the previous generation of console, it really puts the current generation of Need for Speed games to shame.

Now that Criterion is back as the primary developer—the driver's seat as it were—it's only fitting that their first Need for Speed game is getting a second treatment for this generation.

Oh and its getting a Nintendo Switch release.

The game will most likely be based on the code of the original PC versions, just like they did with Burnout Paradise remastered, which had higher quality assets and higher resolution textures.

The gameplay harvested many elements straight from Criterion's Burnout franchise

EA must have jumped through a lot of hoops to renegotiate the vehicle and music licences for this remaster, which is set for release on 13 November 2020.

It isn't confirmed which platforms it will launch on, though leaks strongly suggest that it will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. I fully expect it to also be available on the upcoming Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
