We can all play Rocket League together now
Rocket League received full cross platform support. Players on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Steam and, finally, PlayStation, all can play the game together.
This was confirmed by the developer of Rocket League, Psyonix, in a recent blog post on their website. In order to enable the feature in your game, the developer wrote the following:
To make sure that Cross-Platform play is enabled (it is by default), head to the "Main Menu," select "Options" and then make sure the "Cross-Platform Play" box is checked in the "Gameplay" tab. And that's all there is to it. You are now ready to play against gamers on other platforms across the world!
Rocket League is now the second game to have full cross platform support, after Sony enabled the feature last year for Fortnite players. In the past, Sony has blocked full cross platform support, stating: "On cross-platform, our way of thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play". After backlash from gamers around the world, Sony relented on their stance and started supporting the function in Fortnite.
On the subject of cross platform party support, Psyonix shared details on an upcoming update to the game:
But what about cross-platform parties? In our first update this year (more information coming soon), we will release our cross-platform party system, which allows you to partner up with friends on any platform with the push of a few buttons.
With two major multiplayer titles now supporting full cross platform, we can only hope to see more and more games get the same functionality.
